BACKGROUND AND A WEE BIT OF HISTORY
THE UPDUCKY BAND was first set up in 1996 by David Muldrew and Kevin Shields. The band has chopped and changed with various members but usually now features Luis Sand Schreitt percussion, Aidan Lennon fiddle, Daniel Doyle flute, David Muldrew guitar vocals and William Dundon button key accordion. The band comes together at various times during the year to play events and festivals and has traveled and toured professionally to the Mid West of America, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Zambia, Dubai, Scandinavia, Saudi Arabia at the invitation of the Irish Embassy and in March to Beijing in China where they will take part in Cultural events as part of St Patrick week. All the members of the band are musicians who are passionate about folk,Irish and Scottish music and it is with this passion and professional commitment that THE UPDUCKY BAND is a natural choice for entertaining at Festivals, Folk Clubs and Corporate Events. They have a unique mix of flute, whistles, guitar, bouzouki, 2 fiddles and four sets of vocals.
THE UPDUCKY BAND HAVE RECENTLY RETURNED FROM PLAYING IN NORWAY AND ALSO FOR THE IRISH EMBASSY IN RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA WHERE, ACCOMPANIED BY 3 OF THE RIVERDANCE TROUPE, THEY REPRESENTED THE CULTURAL DIVERSITY OF IRELAND BOTH NORTH AND SOUTH AND HAVE MORE RECENTLY PERFORMED AT THE OLYMPIC TORCH EVENTS AND AT THE QUEENS DIAMOND JUBILEE CONCERT AT STORMONT WITH BEARNAGH AND AT THE SIGIR CONFERENCE IN DUBLIN AND THE WORLD POLICE AND FIRE GAMES OPENING CEREMONY IN BELFAST [SEE THE VIDEO ON THE NEXT PAGE.]
